Senior Virtual Teahouse
One Gathering Per Week

Based in Toronto, and serving Chinese-speaking people from all over the world. The Senior Virtual Teahouse was founded in June 2020. It is a community project founded by Professor Zhang, Weiguo from the Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto in response to the COVID-19 epidemic. Every Wednesday afternoon, people from the community are invited to participate in seminars and lectures by guest speakers.

Senior Virtual Teahouse provides an independent and transparent online platform where Chinese elders, service providers, research institutions, policy makers, and other stakeholders can discuss topics and issues closely related to immigrant elderly in a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere.

Time: Every Wednesday from 3:00pm to 4:30pm

An old house where a treasure

On the afternoon of July 6th, Ms. Leung Pei-ling, a senior social worker of Carefirst, was invited to give a lecture on "A Family with an Elder is Like a Treasure". This is one of a series of reports and lectures on the theme of "Strengthening Intergenerational Dialogue and Eliminating Social Elder Abuse" for community organizations since the Center for the Elderly undertook the federal government's New Vision project at the end of March.

Singing and laughing to welcome Canada Day

The elderly tea room of the Kangsen Center warmly celebrated the 155th anniversary of the founding of Canada with a video conference held on time at 3 o'clock in the afternoon on June 29. Under the auspices of Lucy and Lao Tian, all the participants first sang the Canadian national anthem together, followed by a variety of performances.

Stand up and say no to racism!

At 3 o'clock in the afternoon on June 8, Dr. Wang Li, the guest speaker of this issue, was welcomed in the old man's tea room. Dr. Wang Li is a freelance writer who abandoned business and turned to literature. He is also a well-known social activist in Canada and a warrior who stands on the front line of anti-racism! She has published many anti-racism articles, collected signatures, and organized teams to participate in various anti-racism activities.

Be mentally prepared to deal with racism

Coinciding with Children's Day, the teahouse for the elderly welcomed Professor Yang Lixia's seminar on "Responding to Discrimination from a Psychological Perspective". Professor Yang first discussed the phenomenon of discrimination against Asian elders during the epidemic with a large number of examples, and explained the impact of discrimination on mental health.
