Intergenerational dialogue on elder abuse
Chinese Age-well Research and Education (CARE) will partner with Chinese senior organizations, Chinese youth organizations, scholars, service providers and policy-makers to achieve our goals through promoting authentic and critical intergenerational dialogue on elder abuse.
The project’s main goal is to
(a) educate adults of all ages in the Chinese community about elder abuse and neglect;
(b) promote understanding and enhance solidarity across generations to end all forms of abuse and violence against older persons in Chinese communities in Canada.
The objectives of this project are:
Awareness – Raise awareness about elder mistreatment in the Chinese Community using an intergenerational approach as recommended by previous research;
Support – Provide culturally-sensitive emotional support, or referral to professionals, to those in need during project implementation;
Research – Gather data on the effectiveness of the project for policy recommendations;
Intergenerational solidarity and empowerment – to end all forms of abuse now and in future by joining efforts from all age groups.
